History of Cricket

Cricket, England’s national summer sport, which now played all over the world, mostly in Australia, India, Pakistan, the West Indies, and the British Islands.

Cricket played with a bat and ball and contains two teams of 11 players. The field is elliptical with a rectangular area in the mid, known as the pitch, that is 22 yards (20.12 meters) by 10 feet (3.04 meters) extensive. Two sets of 3 sticks, called wickets, set in the ground at each end of the ground. Across the top of each wicket lie, horizontal parts called bails.

The sides take turns at batting and bowling, each turn is called a “runs”. Sides have one or two innings to each, reliant on the arranged duration of the match, the object is to score the maximum runs. In this way, the bowlers, sending the ball with a straight arm, try to hit the wicket with the ball so that the bails drop.

Cricket is believed to have begun maybe as early as the 13th century as a game in which country boys bowled at a tree stub or at the obstacle gate into a sheep pen. This gate contained 2 uprights and a crossbar lazy on the slotted tops, the crossbar called bail and the whole gate a wicket.

The detail that the bail could be removed when the wicket struck made this desirable to the stump, which name was later useful to the hurdle uprights. Early scripts differ about the size of the wicket, which learned the third stump in the 1770s, but by 1706 the pitch, the area b/w the wickets were 22 yards extended.
